Hey Beauties! Today is the first day of my countdown towards memorial day! I’m super excited to be starting the #rememberingthroughmakeup campaign!

What is Remembering Through Makeup?

It’s a way members of the beauty community can honor KIA (Killed in Action), MIA (Missing Action), and POW (Prisoners of War) on a deeper level by commemorating a fallen hero.

How Does it Work?

As we countdown to memorial day, I will post a makeup look representing each branch, and with it a fallen hero from that branch. It will contain information on that hero, along with resources to learn more about them. Here is my schedule:

Wednesday, May 20th: Air Force Day

Thursday, May 21st: Army Day

Friday, May 22nd: Coast Guard Day

Saturday, May 23rd: Marine Corp Day

Sunday, May 24th: Navy Day

Monday, May 25th: Memorial Day/ Red, White, and Blue

Feel free to join in and use #rememberingthroughmakeup

Today’s Hero: William H “Pits” Pitsenbarger

https://www.military.com/history/airman-1st-class-william-h-pitsenbarger-profile.html

William Pitsenbarger was a pararescue medic during the Vietnam war. Though off duty, he offered to aid the 1st infantry division when they called for help on April 11th, 1966. Instead of helping the wounded and leaving like he was supposed to, Pits stayed with the men, continued to aid them, and even scavenged for weapons for them.

After finishing tending to wounds, he began firing at the enemy where he was shot down. Before his death, Pitsenbarger gave aid to over 60 men and was awarded the rank Staff Sergeant and the Air Force Cross (which was later upgraded to the Medal of Honor) posthumously.

To read more about Pitsenbarger, you can check out the articles from Wikipedia and Military.com (also the source of the photo above).
